Wow!Look what WEdid!! Another fundrasing year for CF has come and gone.....whew, we did it!
First and formost, I would like to thankall Kin in Zone A for their tireless work for CF. YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
Just look at these figures.......
Kirkland Lake Kinsmen  $17,065.00
Timmins Kinettes  $10,592.03
Timmins Kinsmen  $5,555.12
Kinsmen Club of the Porcupine  $5,000.00

For a grand total of....... $38,212.15 from zone A.

“Let’s Do It Old Style”

Present: Governor Ed Dawson, District Secretary Jean Dawson, Vice Governor Len Ptak, DG Ron Lafreniere, Lucie Boissonneault, Darlene Bate, Sue Lafreniere, Erin Thomson, Gil Boissonneault, Denis Tambeau, Remi Vien, Pete Henry, Joe Caron, Rick Tambeau, Jeff Bate, Randy Samms, Jason Johnson, Ron Hildgren, and Wayne Major


1. Opening Ceremonies:
Call to Order – DG Ron 9:35 am

Motion to accept 2010 agenda by Kin Jean; seconded by Kin Sue. Motion carried. (Kin Len was ignored)

8. Acceptance of Minutes as printed ~

Motion to accept Spring Zone 2009 Minutes by Kin Lucie; seconded by Kin Sue. Motion carried.

9. Business Arising from the minutes-
• Englehart Kinsmen have relinquished their charter. The club should be removed from District correspondence and reports in future
• Zone A history has been located and secured at the Vic Mahoney Centre in Timmins

10. Rules of Order Report – Kin Lucie
All clubs in Zone A are in Good Standing

11. Installation of new Kin member Joe Caron. Governor Ed regaled the assembly with all the wonderful tenants of volunteering with Kin.

12. New Address to the chair: “DG Ron, Governor Ed, Vice Governor Len, and fellow Kin” as Kin Joe is no longer a guest.

First Call for Deputy Governor Nominations

Life Member Gil enthusiastically nominated Kin Denis Tambeau; seconded by Kin Pete. Kin Denis respectfully declined.

Kin Denis Tambeau nominated Kin Rick Tambeau; seconded by Kin Pete. Kin Rick respectfully declined.

13. President’s Reports ~ as printed in brochure.
Addendum reports Kinsmen Club of the Porcupine, and Kinsmen Club of Kirkland Lake

14. Public Speaking Contest ~ Judged by Kin Pete, Kin Dar, Kin Jean

• Kin Sue from the Kinette Club of Timmins shared a very moving speech with the assembled Kin.

15. Zone – District – National Resolutions ~ Governor Ed

Moved by Kin Sue to Enter committee of the whole for 15 minutes to discuss; seconded by Kin Rick .Motion Carried.

• Resolution 1 ~ Investment Policy (Kinsmen Club of Mississauga)

Intent: $ used to the best of the ability and as markets fluctuate; some instruction for the District Executive of the Day

Discussion:
~Kin Lucie suggested an amendment that these monetary questions should be voted by the District Executive team of the Day. (Clarified when the second page of the resolution was located; missing from brochure)
~Kin Randy suggested that an amendment should be to change Low Risk to NO Risk; Gil agreed
~Kin Rick questioned the ability of Not for Profit to invest. Answer is Yes


~ Kin Sue suggested an amendment to clarify the investment should be with a “Certified Financial Planner”

Zone A does not approveof presenting Resolution 1 to District convention as it was presented.

  • point of order – amendments must be submitted to the Club that put forth the Resolution

• Resolution 2 ~ Convention Policy (Kinsmen Club of Mississauga)

Intent: Not punitive; Encouragement of people to attend the conventions

Discussion:
~ Kin Sue noted that it would be virtually impossible to collect; clubs in financial straits may not be able to afford to send anyone to conventions
~ Kin Lucie noted that District By-Laws now state that Clubs MUST inform if they are not attending
~Kin Len noted that the Yukon includes fees for conferences in Dues and have wonderful attendance
~ Kin Ron suggested an amendment to repay the $100 to the clubs that do attend

Zone A does not approveof presenting Resolution 2 to District convention as it was presented.

Moved by Sue to extend Committee of the Whole anther 20 minutes; seconded by Rick. Motion carried.

• Resolution 3 ~ Accountability (Kinsmen Club of Mississauga)

Intent: DG’s and Service Reps not doing their jobs throughout the year at a minimum standard should not be rewarded with paid conferences.

Discussion:
~Kin Sue questioned why the DG’s and Services reps are being singled out
*point of order: the only change to Appendix 3 Section 8 is 5)
~Kin Lucie noted that Governors have the responsibility to make sure that their team is doing their job and that it is the Governor’s responsibility to remove people that are not doing their job
~ Kin Ron suggested an amendment to move the 75% to ensure all listed positions be accountable

Zone A does not approveof presenting Resolution 3 to District convention as it was presented.


• Resolution 4 ~ Not in Good Standing (Kinsmen Club of Mississauga)

Intent: An opportunity exists to extend a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ to clubs have an agreement to pay dues in order to allow Kin members the ability to take part; clubs that do not respond will have their charter pulled. Clubs MUST ask for help and be held accountable. Housekeeping.

Discussion:
~general questions on intent
~both National and District dues must be paid to be considered in good standing
~Gil vehemently opposes the sentiments of this resolution as it is not clear enough

Zone A does not approveof presenting Resolution 3 to District convention as it was presented.

Kin Sue moved to come out of committee of the whole; seconded by Kin Remi. Motion carried.
Lunch

Second Call for Deputy Governor Nominations

Life Member Gil enthusiastically nominated Kin Denis Tambeau AGAIN; seconded by Kin Pete. Kin Denis respectfully declined AGAIN.

Kin Sue nominated Kin Pete Henry; seconded by Kin Gil. Kin Pete respectfully declined for the reason that he would like to see Kin Denis in the position.

17. Governor’s Report – Kin Ed
• National Convention video Presentation – Halifax, NS
• Thank you to DG Ron and Zone A for the welcome and hospitality; it is always looked forward to and appreciated
• Membership – challenge to increase our clubs by just one member this year. We all enjoy kin and are rewarded by our involvement ~ we need to share the value of Kin with our friends, neighbours, and even the “strange” people we come across. Our service projects are a fabulous way to get expansion by talking enthusiastically about Kin and what we do
• Minden Kinsmen have withdrawn from running District Convention as they were not able to bring the price down to make it affordable for the family of Kin. District Treasurer Brian Macklin has put together a committee and has started collecting tenders for District to be held the first or second weekend of June

18. Vice Governor’s Report – Kin Len
• Plan for 2010-2011 “Gilligan’s Island – the 3 year Tour”
Introduction: “Here to Service the Members that Service our Communities”
Motto: “@ Your Service”
Goals: Membership, Training & Education, Respect, Communication
Service: Get clubs involved beyond writing cheques, District Fundraising Treasure Hunt
Going Forward: 5 people on District Team to keep Fiscal Responsibility to re-establish contingency fund, Vice team correspondence, New template for FLC
• Survey ~ ideas for convention attendance

19. New Business
• Kin Sue has suggested the Zone combine the awards to reflect “Kin” instead of separate Kinsmen and Kinette awards
Kin Jeff wonders whether the banners that are named could be joined? A suggestion was made to either retire or re-name these awards.
Kin Lucie has suggested a committee should be struck to complete this task.

Kin Erin moved to appoint Kin Lucie to chair this committee; Kin Erin is to help her. Motion Carried.

20. Old Business

Third and final call for Deputy Governor

Kin Lucie nominated Kin Denis TambeauAGAIN; seconded by Kin Everyone. Kin Denis respectfully accepted on the condition that Past DG Randy Samms accept his nomination for DG. Nomination accepted by Kin Randy Samms.

Kin Pete Henry nominated Kin Rick Tambeau; seconded by Kin Pete. Kin Rick respectfully declined AGAIN as he would like to run for President of the Timmins Kinsmen.

Kin Lucie moved to close nominations for Deputy Governor; seconded by Kin Darlene. Motion carried.


21. Election for Deputy Governor

Kin Denis Tambeau was announced as Deputy Governor Elect after which he thanked the zone and requested help from all of the past district officers.

22. Sergeant-at-Arms Report
$154.07

Kin Erin moved to donate the $154.07 to the Kapuskasing Santa Clause Fund; seconded by everyone. Motion carried.

Closing Remarks ~ DG Ron Thanked the Presidents of each club with a token of appreciation; Vice DG Pete Henry almost wet his pants accepting his token of appreciation; CF & Service Rep Erin was thanked for her service to the zone for CF and for performing the secretarial duties; Rules of Order Chair Lucie was thanked; DG Ron expressed his thanks to Kap for hosting Spring and thanked the serving officers for making the trip to the North

25. Conference Chair Kin Wayne thanked the Family of Kin for their attendance and given instructions for the evening’s festivities

AWARDS Update!! Zone and District will now ONLY be sending one winner (Kinsmen, Kinette or KIN) for any awards that previously were Kinmen or Kinette. This complements the changes that National has done to the awards program. See above for the update.
